Stephen stretched and yawned. He longed for a smoke. Well, the case was done. He should leave, eat something, go home, and get some sleep. Yeah, he should, yet he stuck to the desk like glue to paper. He hung around because she did. He didn't want to leave her with Skinner. Hell no. Not that guy. The bossman and her ex to boot.

"Let's get some dinner and talk," Linden approached him unexpected.

"About what?" He shoved his hands into the pockets to keep them from fidgeting.

"That promise you made."

"Huh? What promise? I don't-"

"You would never kiss me again," she cut him off and slipped into her jacket.

"What?" He jerked in his seat as if she had hit him over the head.

"Come on. Give me a ride." She smiled. "It's about time we practice and improve our technique." She turned around and walked to the door.

"Damn it, Linden." He struggled to his feet and hurried after her. "What are you playing at? You can't be serious?"

"Already finished with your paperwork?" Skinner intervened in their departure, looking sharp as well as pissed.

"Sure, boss." He tried to sound casual but, fuck, felt flushed like he was standing too close to a bonfire.

"Can I have a word with you, Sarah?" Skinner said, wrinkling his nose.

She shrugged. "All right. I'll catch up with you at the car, Stephen."

He winced. She had never ever called him Stephen. Oh snap! Could this be for real? "Whatever you say, Sarah." Nah. He couldn't pass that up. He indulged himself in the uniqueness of the occasion.

Oops! Jackpot! Skinner's expression was marked with puzzlement and defeat.

Stephen swallowed a smirk. Hey. He couldn't blame the guy. Linden could punch a man in the guts out of the blue anytime. Not that he didn't enjoy seeing the scumbag messed-up. "See ya." He shuffled out and lit a cigarette. The first drag tasted sweeter than in years. He looked at the cloudless sky. What a day, huh?

Well, then his high spirits dwindled a bit because the time waiting for her in the car stretched out. For the hundredth time he counted the fly spots on the window and almost picked a hole into his pants. Fuck! Why wasn't she coming? What's the hold-up? What was Skinner telling her? That he was trash - not worth caring for. That she made the biggest mistake in her life getting it on with him. Yeah. No shit. He wasn't a good catch. He wasn't worth giving up a man like Skinner, even if he was married. The kind of guy a woman wants to build a life with. A proper match. Right. Too good to be true. Hey. Now you're talking....

The door opened, and he almost hit the roof as he jumped in his seat. "Damn, Linden. Give me a heads-up next time."

"Let's go." She slipped into the driver's seat.

His hands were trembling. Shit! Since when did he freak out because a woman wanted a kiss? Sure, idiot. Not one woman. Sarah Linden. The woman. "Uh... just to put things right. You once made pretty clear that you don't... want me."

"Did I?" She started the car.

"Didn't you?" He was unsure now. Oh hey! "Is this a pity fuck? Do you think you broke my heart? That I can't cope with the loss?"

She snorted. "Don't you know me? Pity isn't one of my strong suits." She drove onto the main street. "That day was just the worst day ever to get involved."

"Okay." He was fidgeting in his seat. Breathe!

"I say we go to your place. It's closer."

"This's for real?" He gripped the doorhandle. "Not you making fun of me? Having a bet running with the guys? Or teaching your ex a lesson?"

"None of those. But we need to clear the air. So, we can move on and strengthen our partnership."

"What the hell?" This woman killed him. "You were the one who brushed me off over and over again."

"Just because those were bad times. We're much better now."

"Are we?" He kept fidgeting. Damn legs. "I'm not... uh...prepared."

"I am."

"Shit, Linden. Do you always have to be the boss?"

"You're welcome to show me otherwise tonight."

Fuck. His mouth went dry, and down there he went hard. "I'm... not the freshest fruit in the crate after the last shift." He was scared, shit, terrified of what might happen to them afterwards. He couldn't lose her. He didn't know if he could risk such hard-won partnership for a few hours of living the dream.

She shrugged. "Me, too. Let's start with a cozy shower."

Oh snap! He had no arguments left. Them making out was going to happen. She had everything planned out. So what? He wanted her. He'd always wanted her, dammit. Sure, but right now he couldn't handle that. "I don't want to fuck up our friendship. You're my BFF."

"Yeah, and we're cool. Trust me."

He shifted. His hard-on was killing him. Okay. Chill. He opened the window and lit a cigarette.

"Take care of yourself if you want," she murmured, eyes on the target.

He flushed. "Since when you're such a tease, Sarah?"

"I never tease." She whistled at the sight of him squirming. "I can park and help you out."

"Stop that, okay," he groaned. "Drive faster."

"Okay." She smirked.

What the hell? He'd never imagined seeing her so giddy and tempting. Hey. He'd never imagined there would come a day he'd crave anything more than meth. Oh snap! This was love, wasn't it?

At his dojo she didn't waste any time. She hauled his smoke from his lips and crushed it in the ashtray.

"Hey!"

"You can smoke as much as you like afterwards." She pulled at his hoodie, dragging it upwards and over his head.

"Damn, Sarah." He helped with the hoodie; his shirt followed. "Don't make me feel easy."

"But you are, rock star." She chuckled and stripped down to her underwear. She hooked a hand into his belt then and pulled him close, placing a lingering kiss on the S of his Serenity tattoo. "S for Stephen."

"You like that, huh?" He returned the endearment by kissing her forehead, eyes, and cheeks. He saved the lips for last. Oh, those delightful lips. He couldn't get enough of them because Sarah tasted like peppermint gum and greenwood, like a walk through the deepest woods on a sunny day after a rainstorm. Holy shit! He was as hard as a rock - star!

She rubbed her body against his groin. "Let's skip the shower."

"You're such a bossy woman." He couldn't help but smile.

"So what?"

"So - boss me around, ma'am." He chuckled, kissing her shoulder blade, smelling her alluring skin.

"Oh sweet. I wish you would always be this obedient." She dragged him to the bedroom.

"Nah. You like me defying you."

"Mm. You like being ordered around, don't you?" She pushed him onto the bed, climbing on top.

He laughed. "Like that? Definitely."

The first time was like a rush, slightly awkward, and way too fast. The only consolation was that she did come as fast as he. Damn. That fact was exhilarating and got him hard again right away. The second time was much better. A slow ride of lingering kisses and licks, moving in delicate circles around and above. He let himself fall and even gave away a stifled scream coming again. Her pleasured noises made him feel like a slice of heaven. Oh snap! The aftermath was bliss. Not that they cuddled. Hell no, though she stayed close, touching his shoulders, hips, and one hand was put on his chest as if had always belonged there.

"Want a smoke?" he croaked, sprawling.

"No. I'm fine. Go to sleep."

"Will you stay til the morning?" He tried to sound confident, like a badass, yeah, and failed miserably.

"Yeah, sure. We still have to take that shower."

"Good." He smiled. "Not that I needed that, but it's good."

"Whatever you say, 1-900 easy star."

"Yeah. Still got the girl, though." He kissed along her neckline. Hey there. His cock hardened once again tasting her adorable flavor. The need for a smoke was gone. "What you say? Are you ready to go again?"

""Sure, work your magic." She wriggled her hips. "You're my ride. So, I'm stuck with you anyway."

"Right, babe." He inhaled her spicy scent and then dazed by lust and love he slipped back into her hot center. "I'll give you a ride, you'll never forget."

"Promises, promises," she purred, sucking him in.

"Yo, roll with the flow. Boom, boom."
