The Rebellion in heaven as well as other horrific events had taken its toll on Castiel, by now left alone by his once numerous followers. For the first time in his eternal existence, he got sick because he couldn't heal himself anymore. Good Lord! He could barely stand up straight. He was a mess. In such bad shape he retreated to some shabby motel room, musing about his clever and unique son Matthias and his demon mother. They were both on the run, hunted by creatures of any kind. He couldn't seek them out because he would put them at risk of being caught. They were better off without him. That fact hurt his dwindling grace and made him suffer more. The will to go on shrunk to nothing and he wouldn't have minded if God would finally obliterate him for his failures. God didn't though. He punished him with the sensation of a decease the humans called depression. The punishment for losing his grace due to loving a demon and having a child that shouldn't be. Should he be humbled and ask for mercy? Should he commit the worst sin and end his existence? Was that the only way to escape his fate?

Only his sister Hannah stood by him. She wanted to make a deal with Metatron to get the last of his grace. Castiel talked her out of it. Metatron imprisoned was the best thing about this painful time. He wouldn't take a chance to ruin that even for the price of his grace. He had coped with teared-up wings and could cope without grace. He left Metatron rotten in a cell and traveled Earth in the company of Hannah. They went along fine but in time he feared she had developed feelings for him. He couldn't cope with that. His strong feelings for Meg, Matthias, Dean and Sam required all the energy he had left. He appreciated Hannah's company though and wouldn't want to make her feel bad. He raised the issue to clear the air.

"I have no such feelings for you," she declared, looking bemazed.

"Good." He only cared for one creature in this humanly way. The abomination who made him do and think about stuff unworthy of an angel. The existence of their offspring was the one thing he wouldn't regret. Matthias was a creature every father could be proud of. A gift he would value for eternity.

In the end when he was dying broken and void of grace, Crowley of all creatures saved him by feeding him some angel's grace he had stolen. Crowley didn't do that because he cared for him though, but because he needed him alive. He should kill the former King of Hell anyway. Once he had stabbed and killed Meg. He had destroyed her favorite vessel. Castiel couldn't though. Oh Lord! Once again, he only proceeded existing because of a demon. Crowley gave him the chance to make things right and to see Meg and their son again. Right. His depression was over. He was back to defy any creature, if not God himself to save the ones he loved the most.

When Hannah undressed in front of him in a hotel room to take a shower he hadn't recovered enough to complain about her actions. When she kissed him on the lips, he was too shellshocked to not reciprocate the caress. Holy hell! Not now. I cannot do this. Yet I cannot lose the one companion left to me. I need an ally. I don't need another lover. He endured the kiss thinking about Meg. The kisses he and she had shared were so much better and hotter. So much more worth losing his way and pureness for. He braced himself to rebuff the angel's come-on. Though when Hannah broke the kiss, she explained she only did that to make a point to the husband of her vessel, still chasing after her, nothing more.

Oh Lord! He sighed his relief and resolved the awkward moment by talking about his vessel Jimmy Novak and what he had done to him. Hannah listened and proved she was the kind of angel sister he thought she was and needed in his struggle for survival.

Though he got his grace back at last his existence didn't turn easier. He was cast out from heaven and the other angels hated him Hannah said. He even asked a brother to kill him to release him from his suffering. Instead of dying he killed two more of his angel brothers. In the end he lost Hannah as well. The death of his faithful and valued sister cut him deep. At this new low point Crowley made him beg for his help and even Sam and Dean turned against him, chaining him to the floor. No wonder he turned into trash for real life TV afterwards and allowed Lucifer to use his vessel for fighting and beating the Darkness. Surely no high point in his existence but he was all alone and beyond desperate. Possessed by Lucifer he could lay back and watch him having fun with his doggie Crowley. He even enjoyed that to some degree. He didn't enjoy seeing Sam falling for Lucifer's tricks. Dear Sam. Always patient and understanding. Even now dealing with him acting strange, not suspecting the truth about Lucifer leading this vessel. A price maybe too high to beat God's sister and save the world. Well, too late for regrets. He was trapped in Lucifer's vessel as long as the archangel wanted to use him. And then, he was sure Lucifer would kill him.

The coming of the darkness forced Meg and Matthias out of hiding. Jumping to and from various places Meg send her son to Castiel and the Winchesters for help. Matthias zapped in front of the bunker and waited for his father to appear. "Da-" He broke off frozen. "Dean," he finished, avoiding the angel's stare. "I thought he is with you."

"So what when he is?" Lucifer snapped, reeling his wings in. "Who are you anyway?"

"No one. Just zapping by to do business with the Winchesters."

"Since when do the Winchesters business with demon trash?"

"Since he owes me," Matthias said, antsy to zap away. He had seen the angel's true face and he was afraid. One false move and he was gone. One hint of suspicion he was the offspring of Castiel and his demon mother, Lucifer would erase him.

Hell yeah. Matthias spotted a tiny flicker in those dark eyes. A speck of blue terror. "Whatever, I'm out of here." flash He zapped not right to his mom, he wasn't born stupid, but across the world to cover his tracks. "Mom, a second angel shares Castiel's vessel," he yelped arriving at her hiding place.

"Who would dare?" she snorted, wrinkling her nose.

"Lucifer."

Meg jumped. "No fucking way!"

"You know I never lie to you."

"You must be mistaken then."

"I'm not. I sensed no struggle though. I think Castiel does share his vessel voluntarily."

Meg chewed her lip. What was the cloud-hopper up to now? It wasn't the first time he did the crazy, right? Well, he kissed and fucked me, so everything is possible. But Lucifer! Come on!

"Shouldn't we warn Sam and Dean?" Matthias interrupted her musings. "Do you think they know?"

"I don't have a clue." Should I even care? Should I put my boy in danger for the fucking Winchesters? For his angelic dummy of a father?

"I could zap us there and we can enjoy the spectacle," Matthias suggested, smirking.

"Holy shit! That's the demon in you talking. This is your father we're talking about and the most dangerous archangel ever. My creator."

"Sure, and Castiel is my creator. So, are we going?"

"Hell yes."

Meg didn't have a plan and couldn't believe how lucky she was. She caught sight of her angel in front of the bunker. He was soaking wet. Whatever happened there was not her concern. Fooling Lucifer was the key matter for now. "Holy Shit! I didn't know you escaped the cage," she blurted, then chuckled, making goo-goo eyes at the angel that betrayed and never cared for her.

For a microsecond her creator startled, though the fallen angel was back to his old self fast. "I thought you were long gone. Floating in The Empty."

"Nah. This girl always finds a way to survive." She pointed at her body. "I even found myself a new vessel."

Lucifer didn't look intrigued. "What are you doing here? The Winchesters might see you and caught on to me."

"Yeah. About that? What are you doing in the pansy's vessel?"

"What is it to you?"

"Oh, I want to settle a score with the sap. He threw me into the fire, didn't he? He tricked me and I want him to suffer." She was sure because he had been in the cage Lucifer didn't know about her feelings for Castiel and the child, or his existence even. Except Castiel had blabbed the truth. That risk she was willing to take. "Can I join your cause? I'm bored."

"Fine," he huffed, struggling with Castiel's coat. "Sam is already getting suspicious. You can distract him to keep him in line."

"Easy peasy. I can handle Sam anytime."

"No intercourse."

She blinked. That rule didn't sound like Lucifer. "Of course not. Humans are too fast at their limits fucking a demon anyway." Except for angels turned into a human. Oh fuck. Focus. Don't drool.

He smirked. "Go on then. Keep Sam busy. I have other things to do."

"Like getting dry?" she quipped, tempting fate. Demon. Duh!

Poof! He was gone. Meg trembled. Fuck! She was playing the devil. One mistake and Lucifer would snap her out of existence. Yeah. Even though she couldn't let Castiel being imprisoned by him. Her angel. Her tree-topper. She hated Lucifer for abusing his unique mind and beloved vessel. She would break him free even if Lucifer would kill her. Once she cared only for Lucifer, doing everything he wanted, now she cared only for her unicorn and Matthias, the miracle child with the most unique skills. The two creatures worth fighting for. "Coming in, Sammy," she purred, entering the bunker. "Don't get your panties in a bunch."

Handling Sam was easy. Keeping Lucifer in the dark was hard. The daily aspect of being near Castiel's vessel didn't help. Knowing he was somewhere inside, screaming, made Meg anguish to push matters forward. To take the highest risk and pay with torture and death. Though Matthias with his wit and logic kept her sane and grounded. He advised her to distract Lucifer by rumbling about her hate for Castiel, how much she longed for revenge because he had duped her. Meg accepted and performed that advice, even though she loved the idiot, was even dreaming about him, demon, or no demon. The day they met. The teasing and the fighting. The unexpected attraction and the moving of a lot of furniture. Fuck! Once she had dreamt about Matthias, had foreseen his creation, before he had slipped out of her like a nasty surprise from heaven and hell. She had born and raised the most despicable creature and loved him in spite of being a soulless demon. Yeah. She was special and could handle one archangel, couldn't she?

Oh hell. It was hard though because Lucifer was playing his usual game, looking at her with Castiel's blue eyes, and pouty lips. She was glad she could look right past his vessel so she wouldn't be seduced to fuck him right on the spot. That was a no-go, yet she couldn't wait to uncage Castiel to do all the naughties she and he hadn't done too long, for fuck's sake. Way too long.

No, it wasn't easy to shun Califer's company and latch onto Sam instead. Sammy was nice enough to look at but also a bit of a bore. "Don't you think Castiel is acting weird?" she rubbed under Sam's nose losing any patience. "He never asks or talks about Dean, he's calling himself Cas, what he never did, and he lacks his usual awkwardness."

"What are you implying?" Sam wailed, budging from her. "Didn't you adore the guy? You bore his child after all?"

"That's not what I meant, stupid."

"Mm. I wonder why you didn't jump him every second now that you're here all the time? Not in the mood?"

"Now you're on to something, just keep thinking, but don't hurt your head doing it."

"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?"

"Come on, Sammy. Look at the angel. Look at Dean. Isn't it obvious?"

"The angel. That's what you call him? Holy shit!" He rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, sure, my pretty boy angel," she grunted, then walked away. Sammy didn't see what was right there yet. Pity, because she hated to say so, but she needed the Winchesters as allies in the fight against the most dangerous archangel ever. She couldn't risk losing her unicorn.

*****

Castiel didn't know how much longer he could endure his entrapment. Seeing Meg swinging her hips and not able to speak to her or touch her or scream at her was torture. He didn't know why in God's name she was here and did what she did. She strolled through the bunker, teasing Sam, smirking at Lucifer, saying she wanted Castiel's vessel destroyed, his badly damaged wings shredded to bits and pieces. Castiel struggled to talk to her, but he couldn't break through Lucifer's ban. She played her role so good that Castiel hurt to his core, not sure if this was really her. He thought she cared for him. He thought she even loved him. So, what was she playing at? Where was Matthias? Why was he not with her? Had she killed him to join forces with Lucifer again? For heaven's sake. Did she play him for a sucker all this time? Is this my punishment? Some peculiar purgatory? Oh Lord! Have mercy! Don't take her away from me.
